Sinead Allison — A Space of Contemplation

Posted on July 20, 2012

Sinead Allison investigates what impact industry and tourism has on the environment.

I finished My Bachelor degree in Visual Arts in 2011 at Sydney College of the Arts, University of Sydney and majored in Photomedia.
Impact on the environment by Industry and Tourism are some of the topics I have made inquiries into. I have done this through several ways, whether it be a collection of found and made objects, sound, text or image. The planning and the processes of art-making are very important as through this I evolve into pseudo roles such as that of a fossil collector or Scientist. Through the process the work is ever evolving and accidents happen along the way which can create something unexpected, and it is in this way that the natural is a central theme of the majority of my work. The collection of items form an immersive environment for the viewer and this creates a space of contemplation, a meditative environment for the viewer to reflect on themselves in relation to the surrounding environment and the effects that they are having on it, whether it big or small.
