Lyndal Irons — Goodbye Oxford Tavern

Posted on June 17, 2014

Lyndal Irons documents the final Tuesday of the Petersham’s Oxford Tavern.

On August 7, 2013, Petersham’s Oxford Tavern closed after offering decades of topless service and free, live performances from showgirls 3 – 7 days a week.
On its final Tuesday night, customers queued down Crystal Street and drank the kegs dry. Its closure prompted a stripper reunion with dancers traveling across Australia to pay tribute alongside curious or committed locals coming to say goodbye. Its closure changed the character of the neighbourhood forever.
