Jenny McClure mixes handmade marks with digital processes to produce a visual language which is bold and graphic.
Curiosity, humour and the light-hearted are key elements to my work. I’m particularly fascinated by people, their individual stories and the nostalgia of childhood.
The first three spreads are from my Children’s Book — ‘DON’T’ which I submitted for the Macmillan Book Prize 2011. I aimed to highlight dangers and behavior children should watch out for in a humorous way. The next two images are book spreads from my illustrated diaries book series — ‘Town Folk’ and ‘Farm Friends’ which present loose narratives based on observational drawings. The fashion illustrations are entries for Gemma Correll’s ‘What I Wore Today’ competition.
The central image winning publication in her book. Next is an example of work I’ve been producing at The Letchworth Arts Centre, promoting a course in which students create tours of their town. The final two images are screen shots from animation shorts — ‘Ping Pong’ and ‘Melnik’ which can be viewed at www.youtube.com/jennymcclure
