Giang Nguyen — Afternoon on Earth

Posted on August 13, 2012

Giang Nguyen treats each book spread as a separate design challenge, employing different techniques.

Book design based on short story of the same name by Singaporean writer Heather Chi, from the Cerip, issue 1 (published by Math Paper Press). The book was designed in spreads, each spread has a different design that employs various techniques, from photography, scanning photocopies, mixing inks, to generated graphics using algorithms with Processing software to create a new experience to the reader at every page turn.
I want to incorporate the feeling of “traveling” through new, unique experiences in every page turn and the abstract, melancholy, carefree, lost-in-space theme of the story; while still keeping a consistency with the same look, feel, color and typography.

Giang Nguyen studied a Bachelor of Art (Multimedia Design) at RMIT and a Master of Art (Graphic Design) at Savannah College of Art & Design.
