Erica Stine/Lauren Beckwith — Share & Support

Posted on July 11, 2012

Erica Stine and Lauren Beckwith created an anonymous advice wall for women that allows the sharing of experiences, hardships, and life decisions.

Our work focuses on service design or design that caters to a specific audience and need within a community. We created an anonymous advice wall for women that allows students to share experiences, hardships, and life decisions. After a lot of user testing we discovered that this service was most effective when posted on the inside of bathroom stall doors in women’s restrooms. Anyone could write a problem and others could respond with advice or support. To enable women to read the advice they receive without returning to the same bathroom stall, we created a blog (http://shareandsupportwall.tumblr.com/). We also developed a kit that could be distributed to those who want to start their own Share and Support Wall. Ideally these kits would be photo documented through our blog. We think the simplicity of this project made it approachable and ultimately very successful and beneficial for students.

Erica Stine and Lauren Beckwith are studying a Bachelor of Fine Art (Industrial Design) at Carnegie Mellon University.
